I am interested in exploring mark-making and active colour interaction within painting, printmaking and sculpture. My goal is to create a visual sensation through non-objective artworks featuring texture and layers inspired by the spontaneous process of Abstract Expressionism and Matisse’s cutouts and vivid colors used by artists such as Howie Green, Joan Mitchell and theoretical interactions by Josef Albers.

The process of creating a piece is just as essential as the finished product. I discover new methods of applying or moving paint and ink around each piece while creating dimensional qualities and subtle colour interactions. I layer neutral and vibrant tones to create dynamic and contrasting relationships within each 2ft x 2ft composition. I edit each piece as it is created, never holding onto any part of it or believing it is too precious to change. When working on my art, I live by Brian Rutenberg’s quote “there is no thinking without first feeling.
